Wondrous Wednesday

We shopgirls are pretty busy. With one of us being a full-time Mama plus Shopgirl and the other one being a Nana and Shopgirl, we're pretty much never available to visit our favorite shops during business hours. And gettting our hair done ... you should see the juggling act it takes to fit that in!

So as we were heading up to Pennsylvania recently for a last-minute/emergency visit, we started discussing how we feel bad for the many others in the same boat as us. How do they get their shopping done? Especially at this time of year?

And that's how we came up with Wondrous Wednesday. We're going to stay open until 7:00 tonight to give all of you busy ladies (and men) a chance to shop your favorite (c'mon, you know we're at least in your top 10 .... right??) local shop without being in a rush.

Courtesy of WeHeartIt
Leave the kids at home (properly supervised, of course), and head on over. Have a glass of wine. Try some delicious goodies from Dr. Pete's. Let us show you around the shop and help you out with your gift-giving needs. We've got a variety of gifts in a variety of price ranges. Plus, we've got a number of items on sale ... up to 75% off! How can you pass that up?

And if you can't leave the kids at home, bring 'em! We'll keep them entertained so you can look around.

If ya'll like this, we'll keep it going for the next few weeks. So please stop by tonight. We hate to drink alone ;)

The Cutest Chef Ever

A couple months ago, I met the gorgeous Miss Grace. She was a delight (and so were mom and grandmother). She flitted through the shop admiring all of our trinkets, and then she saw something she had to have. One of our fabulous vintage-inspired children's aprons. Her grandmother kindly purchased it for her, and I (not so tactfully) asked Miss Grace's mom if she'd mind sending us a couple pictures of Grace and the apron in action.

She did, and I've gotta say, she's the cutest chef ever (and I have a pretty cute chef of my own. Well, two if you count my husband).

Tell, me, is she not perfect??

Thanks, Miss Grace, for letting us share your pictures (and a big thanks to Mommy)!

Have a great weekend, ya'll!

Fabulous Event

Just as we were heading back from Market, we received an exciting invitation. Probably the most exciting invitation we've received in our three-year history. The lovely girls at the Lowcountry Food Bank (thanks to the fabulous Ms. L) requested our event design assistance with their inaugural Farmer's Table event.

If you don't know about LCFB, you need to. In their own words, the mission of this non-profit is to "feed the poor and hungry of the ten coastal counties of South Carolina by soliciting and distributing healthy food and grocery products to nonprofit agencies serving the poor, and to educate the public about the problems of and solutions to domestic hunger."

Not only do they work hard to eliminate domestic hunger in the Lowcountry, but through their Growing Food Locally Program, they strive to help local farmers succeed by providing them with "professional training, free consultations, small pay advances, and a guaranteed safety net purchase of pre-selected crops."

We are so honored to participate in this wonderful fundraising event, which is designed to showcase our fabulous local chefs and the local farmers who provide them with such delicious produce. The proceeds will go directly to the Growing Food Locally Program.

The girls at LCFB, along with chef Jim Spratling, have designed what will be a fabulous evening on September 10, 2010. The evening will begin with drinks, small bites, and a tour of Habersham Farms. Then guests will be transported by hayride to the Habersham Marketplace. In an organic, vintage-farm setting, 100 guests will dine at a community table. Chefs from six of Beaufort's best restaurants will work together to create a delicious three-course meal that features fresh produce from local farms.

We invite you to come dine under the stars with us. Eat fresh, organic, fabulous food.Support a beautiful cause. We hope to see you there!

Shopgirls Picks of the Week

How are you doing on this dreary afternoon, friends? Despite the miserable weather, I'm having a delightful time in the shop ... for two reasons:
1) While it's been fairly quiet, some loyal customers have traveled here, braving the torrential rain,  just to visit our "wonderful shop." How sweet!
2) New shipments arrived today! Much of the morning was spent unpacking new lovelies and arranging them around the shop. Don't you want to stop in and visit?

Not to leave you in too much suspense, we shopgirls have each picked one of our new items to feature in this week's edition of our "Pick of the Week." So without further ado ...

Cheryl's Pick of the Week: Goody Goody
We have been admirers of the whimsical Goody Goody purses, jewelry rolls, and wallets for some time now. And at January's show, we decided that we were completely smitten and could resist them no longer. These wonderful woven silk accessories both feel and look luxurious. Not to mention making the proud owner feel sophisticated and divine. Imagine spicing up date night with one of the purses; wrapping your jewelry like a little gift in one of the jewelry rolls, or pulling out one of the fabulous wallets during your next outing. We hope you're just as smitten with these wonderful little gems as we are.

Allegra's Pick: M.Bellish'd Watches
These watches by M.Bellish'd totally made us swoon. Why, you ask? Because they rock! And they're interchangeable, versatile, and totally chic! You start buy purchasing one of the watches that comes with a solid cuff. Then, you can add a variety of printed cuffs by just snapping the watch to it. How awesome is that?! Since the cuffs are cotton, they're totally comfortable, and washable to boot. Have you ever seen such an awesome watch? Come in soon and try them on!

Well, that wraps up our Pick of the Week post. Tell me, friends, which one is your favorite? What would you like to see us feature on future picks?

Have a rockin' Super Bowl Sunday, all. Be safe!

Emilie Sloan & Giveaway

Recognize these bags??? That's right, they're the Emilie Sloan bags we carry here in the shop. And guess where this picture was taken! At the American Music Awards Lounge. She had the opportunity to give her bags away to some famous people, like ...
LaToya Jackson
Candace Cameron
And a bunch of other people we're ashamed to admit we're too old to know. But I'm sure they're really famous and popular.

Anyway, isn't it cool to know that you could own the same bag a celebrity owns?? Now you can. We're excited to announce that we will be giving away an Emilie Sloan Payton wristlet! All you have to do is visit the Emilie Sloan site and then post a comment on our blog telling us which style bag and which fabric design you like best. Entries must be received by Thursday, December 24th at noon, and the winner will be announced shortly afterward.

Happy shopping and weekend!

We had our very first private shopping event at Joli Monday night, and it was a huge hit! About 20-25 ladies came in from a local philanthropic organization and enjoyed our shop during non-business hours. We set up the above spread, and the guests received a percentage off their purchases.

Do you have a group who would like to shop here during a private shopping party? Give us a call or send us an email. We'll set up some goodies for you and offer a discount to your entire group.

Martha Stewart loves Vance Kitira

(click for larger image)

That's right! In the November issue of Martha Stewart Living, Vance Kitira's candles (which we carry) are featured in her "Good Things" section, under "Favorite Flames. The magazine suggests:
"Make a centerpiece by arranging pillars on glass or silver plates or trays, which reflect the flickering flames. We love the mottled look and subtle colors of these pillars."
We love the look and colors of these candles, too. Not to mention the extremely reasonable prices, and the fact that they're unscented. That means they won't interfere with the aromas of the food you're serving.

Come in and check out our awesome selection of Vance Kitira candles, and if you mention that you saw this on our blog or Twitter or Facebook, we'll go ahead and give you 10% off your Vance purchase.

Favorite Things & Devine Design

As you know, we shopgirls are quite the social butterflies. So you can imagine our joy over making new friends at the Harvest Festival last weekend. One in particular, Diana Hudson Kresnye of Devine Designs, has made us particularly happy. She's a well-known designer living in Ohio, and she liked our shop so much that she is featuring us on her blog today. Not only that, but we're doing a giveaway on her site! Stop on over at her blog (once you read, we know you'll be addicted like we now are), and follow the directions to enter the giveaway.

Hopefully many of Diana's readers are reading this, so we'd like to say hello to all of you. Welcome to our little blog. We hope you enjoy reading it as much as we enjoy writing it. Hope you love that lattice lantern, and that you enter the giveaway. Please visit our website often, as we will update pictures and specials. And of course, please become a follower on our blog. We love to see new readers, and try to communicate with you often.

Thanks to everyone reading. Don't forget to show us blog love by entering the giveaway and commenting on our blog and Diana's (not just now, but all the time).

Awesome customer suggestion

Customer Peggy Wilson had a great suggestion for this lovely glass log votive-holder (one that she's applied herself): put fresh Rosemary inside!

Doesn't it look pretty? We also put fresh Rosemary in those sweet little squirrel bud vases that we have, but we didn't get to capture that on film yet.

Thanks, Peggy, for such a great suggestion!

HHF Recap: The Scene

We've got so much to tell ya'll about the Harvest Festival. Basically, it was a huge hit. Very well received, and people commented that they hoped it was an annual event! Before we get into what we did at the fest, I thought I'd share some pictures of the "scenes" of the day.

The Entrance to the Festival

Awesome truck complete with a scarecrow made by Riverview Charter School kids (the scarecrows' permanent home will be at Habersham Farms)
Another awesome scarecrow along with a bunch of those pumpkins Allegra picked up Friday from Lowcountry Produce.
The stage, provided by Hargray, our premier sponsor.
Just a few of the vendors at the event. We only got to venture out right in front of the shop, and those vendors were amazing! I can't imagine all the other fantastic vendors who must have been there!

Allegra with "brothers" Salvadore Dali (Yorkie-Dachsund mix) and Vincent Van Gogh (Chihuahua-Dachsund mix).

The 360-degree bar provided by Maggie's Pub.
The festival was beautiful at night, with fabulous lights draped across Market.
The crowd inside Nancy Beaupre's Storybook Shoppe.
The gang at Earth Fit.
Awesome band, Riptide.
The kids rocking out to the music.
Joli all lit up at night ...

The entire merchant council and volunteers did a fabulous job setting up for the event. It turned out beautifully, and a fantastic time was had by all! Stay tuned for more on the tasting and the flowers!

Pumpkins, pumpkins, and more pumpkins!

In preparation for the big event on Saturday, Allen (my son) and I (Allegra) took a drive up to Lowcountry Produce in Lobeco today. We were there to pick up our order for the tasting and to pick up ohhh ... just a few pumpkins to help decorate the street for the Harvest Fest ...
Allen couldn't wait to see the "punkin patch" and jumped out of the car right away to pick out his pumpkin ... I think he's excited about the Harvest Festival.
Hope ya'll are as excited as we are about Saturday. Can't wait to see you!
