As seen in

We regularly read magazines and peruse catalogs to see if any of the products we carry are featured in them. Recently we've come across a number of catalogs that carry the lovely dainty flutes & glasses that we recently carried. And they all have a way bigger price tag on them than we do.

But we just came across a catalog the other day that takes the cake in over-the-top pricing. I will not tell you who it is, but I will show you a snapshot from their website.
(click picture to enlarge)
Do you recognize those decanters? We currently have the White Wine decanter on display here at the shop (we sold the Red Wine). Now do you see the price this website has for it? That's right you read it correctly, $94. Guess how much we're selling it for .... $29!

Now ours doesn't come in a fancy wooden crate like the one above does, if you buy it here, we will wrap it a nice Joli bag with pretty tissue and ribbon. And we won't charge you for that. And ours is $29 not $94 (plus shipping).

Just another reason to shop locally, right?

Wondrous Wednesday

We shopgirls are pretty busy. With one of us being a full-time Mama plus Shopgirl and the other one being a Nana and Shopgirl, we're pretty much never available to visit our favorite shops during business hours. And gettting our hair done ... you should see the juggling act it takes to fit that in!

So as we were heading up to Pennsylvania recently for a last-minute/emergency visit, we started discussing how we feel bad for the many others in the same boat as us. How do they get their shopping done? Especially at this time of year?

And that's how we came up with Wondrous Wednesday. We're going to stay open until 7:00 tonight to give all of you busy ladies (and men) a chance to shop your favorite (c'mon, you know we're at least in your top 10 .... right??) local shop without being in a rush.

Courtesy of WeHeartIt
Leave the kids at home (properly supervised, of course), and head on over. Have a glass of wine. Try some delicious goodies from Dr. Pete's. Let us show you around the shop and help you out with your gift-giving needs. We've got a variety of gifts in a variety of price ranges. Plus, we've got a number of items on sale ... up to 75% off! How can you pass that up?

And if you can't leave the kids at home, bring 'em! We'll keep them entertained so you can look around.

If ya'll like this, we'll keep it going for the next few weeks. So please stop by tonight. We hate to drink alone ;)

The Cutest Chef Ever

A couple months ago, I met the gorgeous Miss Grace. She was a delight (and so were mom and grandmother). She flitted through the shop admiring all of our trinkets, and then she saw something she had to have. One of our fabulous vintage-inspired children's aprons. Her grandmother kindly purchased it for her, and I (not so tactfully) asked Miss Grace's mom if she'd mind sending us a couple pictures of Grace and the apron in action.

She did, and I've gotta say, she's the cutest chef ever (and I have a pretty cute chef of my own. Well, two if you count my husband).

Tell, me, is she not perfect??

Thanks, Miss Grace, for letting us share your pictures (and a big thanks to Mommy)!

Have a great weekend, ya'll!

Shopgirls Picks of the Week

How are you doing on this dreary afternoon, friends? Despite the miserable weather, I'm having a delightful time in the shop ... for two reasons:
1) While it's been fairly quiet, some loyal customers have traveled here, braving the torrential rain,  just to visit our "wonderful shop." How sweet!
2) New shipments arrived today! Much of the morning was spent unpacking new lovelies and arranging them around the shop. Don't you want to stop in and visit?

Not to leave you in too much suspense, we shopgirls have each picked one of our new items to feature in this week's edition of our "Pick of the Week." So without further ado ...

Cheryl's Pick of the Week: Goody Goody
We have been admirers of the whimsical Goody Goody purses, jewelry rolls, and wallets for some time now. And at January's show, we decided that we were completely smitten and could resist them no longer. These wonderful woven silk accessories both feel and look luxurious. Not to mention making the proud owner feel sophisticated and divine. Imagine spicing up date night with one of the purses; wrapping your jewelry like a little gift in one of the jewelry rolls, or pulling out one of the fabulous wallets during your next outing. We hope you're just as smitten with these wonderful little gems as we are.

Allegra's Pick: M.Bellish'd Watches
These watches by M.Bellish'd totally made us swoon. Why, you ask? Because they rock! And they're interchangeable, versatile, and totally chic! You start buy purchasing one of the watches that comes with a solid cuff. Then, you can add a variety of printed cuffs by just snapping the watch to it. How awesome is that?! Since the cuffs are cotton, they're totally comfortable, and washable to boot. Have you ever seen such an awesome watch? Come in soon and try them on!

Well, that wraps up our Pick of the Week post. Tell me, friends, which one is your favorite? What would you like to see us feature on future picks?

Have a rockin' Super Bowl Sunday, all. Be safe!

Shopgirls Picks of the Week

We're starting a new weekly feature here on our blog, called "The Shopgirls' Picks of the Week." Each of us will choose an item in the shop to feature, and we'll post about them on Monday.

So without further ado, here are the picks for this week:

Cheryl's Pick: Bird Lantern
Isn't this lantern adorable? I'm coveting it. The birds create a bit of whimsy, while the rust color works well with other metals that may be found in your home. It would go perfectly with cottage decor! At just under $50, this would make a great gift ... if you can resist it for yourself.

Allegra's Pick: Men's Gifts
Let's face it ... men are really hard to shop for. So to make it a little easier for you, we put together a "men's table," and the whole table is my pick of the week. Items on this table start at around $10, so there is something for every price point. From desk accessories to shaving products, you're sure to find something for all the men in your life.

Hope you enjoyed our first installment of the "Shopgirls Picks of the Week." Look for it every Monday!

It's almost like Coastal Living shops here

We just received our December/January issue of Coastal Living, and could not believe that they featured two products that we carry in their "Gift Guide"!

(click for larger image)

First of all, they are featuring the Bella Cucina Aromatic Savory Salts. We carry several flavors of these salts, all of which are delicious. And, our price is less than what's printed (we sell them at $9.00 each).

You'll notice that they are also featuring the Bella Cucina Farmhouse Lemons and the Lowcountry Produce Lowcountry Creole. We don't carry either of these at the moment, but are considering it. What do ya'll think? Should we order them??

Here's the second item they featured that we carry (well, to be honest, one of our wonderful customers bought us out of them, and we've just reordered) ... this beautiful Abalone Shell Mirror! (We sell ours for $18, by the way, not $30 as printed).

It's always exciting to see items we carry featured in magazines that we love and respect, so we wanted to share them with you too!

And as mentioned in the previous post, if you mention that you saw these lovelies on our blog, on Facebook, or on Twitter, we will give you 10% off the items.

Happy shopping!

Great Idea -- Owl Pitchers

We're not the only ones who love them. Do you see our owl pitchers in the picture above? They're featured in the November 9th issue of People Magazine, under "Great Ideas." Mad Men's Bryan Batt owns a shop in New Orleans, and he carries the same owl pitchers we do (we always knew we had good taste).

And better yet ... we sell them at a slightly lower price than he does. The small owl pitcher is $12 in our shop; and the large pitcher is $29.50 (compared to $15 and $36 in his store).

Bella Cucina in Southern Living

Check it out! Bella Cucina's Farmhouse Olives are featured in Southern Living's November issue. We carry the 10 oz jar here for $13.75. Southern Living is right ... these do make a great hostess gift, so stock up now!

La Dolce Vita

If you're like so many of us, you tend to get caught up in the daily rollercoasters of our lives. We get so caught up in the day-to-day (trying to potty train our children; throwing our backs out; worrying overdeadlines, etc.) that we forget to take a few steps back; take in a deep breath, and really look around us to appreciate all that we have.

Thankfully, we have the talents of Rebecca Puig (and husband Rick) at Sugarboo Designs to remind us of what's really important. When we saw these pieces at market, we decided we needed to bring them into the shop. Because couldn't we all use the reminder that our life is full of beauty? And that we are loved?

Stop in and take a look at these new pieces, and take a few minutes to remember all the wonderful people and things in your life.

Fabulous Wedding Gift Ideas

With wedding season ramping up, many of us are looking for lovely wedding gifts. So we wanted to share with you two classically modern merchandise lines we carry that make perfect wedding gifts.

The first line is Beatriz Ball. These beautiful mixed-metal serving pieces are hand-made in Mexico. Not only are they striking, but they never need to be polished, and they can go from freezer to oven to table! These items will add an air of sophistication to any table, without the high maintenance required by some other collections. We carry the items picture below. Stop in the shop or email us for more details!

The second line we recommend is Juliska (and, remember, it's on sale). Juliska's glassware is mouth-blown by artisans outside of Prague. Also handmade, no two pieces are alike. Though the glassware is very thin, it's surprisingly durable -- which means it's dishwasher safe. Inspired by historical European patterns, the artisans at Juliska give those classic designs modern flare and functionality. Below are many of the pieces we carry in the shop (note: some of our glassware is in green; not all is clear).Keep these two product lines in mind next time you need to purchase a wedding gift. They're fabulously beautiful (and reasonably priced) alternatives to the classic nuptial present.

Stay cool!

The end of an era

OK, well not really an era, but still. We've carried Juliska glassware for almost two years now. In large part because Allegra fell in love with it years ago. It's beautiful and looks so delicate (but is actually sturdy enough to go in your dishwasher).

Sadly, though, we've decided to close out our in-stock glassware. Not because we don't love it anymore. Not because we don't sell it. But because we have a slight storage problem. These are all of our Juliska boxes that we keep on hand for the glassware.
Faced with the decision of either keeping all these boxes or bringing in new merchandise for ya'll, we decided to say goodbye to the glassware. To help it move a little more quickly, we're offering it at 20% off! And remember that we ship anywhere in the U.S. (and you needn't worry about breakage since we have all these boxes)!
Please note that we will continue to carry the ceramics, and can also order any item in the Juliska catalog.
Happy weekend!

Let's fall in love

That song has been running through my head lately ... and I think it might be because we have an abundance of bird and bee goodies here in our shop. See?

I can't get over those little bird salt & pepper shakers (in aqua and white) for only $8.50! We also have French bee water & champagne glasses ($10 and $10.50, respectively); Fringe candle gift sets (featuring birds and butterflies & bees) at $29.50 for a set of four candles; a wire bee skep for $9.50 and a gorgeous John Derian apiary paperweight for $56. Plus tons more that we couldn't fit into that little picture. Stop in or call us for more information!

Great gifts under $5

How exciting ... we just got our first reader question! KMag asks:
"I'm in need of ideas for a small give-away for my upcoming Kentucky Derby Day Cocktail Party. I'll need 5 bags of about $5-6 each. Any ideas?"
Confession: KMag is Cheryl's older daughter (and Allegra's big sister). But, we don't care. It's still a reader question -- and a darn good one at that -- so we're going to answer it!
Take a look at these lovely items ... descriptions and prices will be offered below.
1. Punch Studio pocket/purse notepads ($3.95 + tax). These little gems are awesome because the magnetic closure and fold-over cover prevent the pages from getting torn or wrinkled. On top of that, they're adorable. We carry several collections including Le Petit Village -- an assortment of 12 shops, gardens, houses, and restaurants (like the one pictured here).
2. Ballmania "Around the World in 80 Days" Lip Balm ($2.95+ tax). Have you ever seen a cuter lip balm? Featuring SPF 20 and a mild vanilla cream flavor, Ballmania is loved by all (it's been featured in numerous magazines from InStyle to Oprah). Plus it contains twice as much lip balm as a stick. With eight different styles, you can get one for each of your give-aways plus one or two for yourself!
3. Natural Life Token Key Chains ($5.00 + tax). These are probably the cutest key chains we have ever seen for anywhere near this price (Allegra has one). Featuring various shapes and sayings (like an owl that says, "Listen to Your Heart" or a flower that says "Live Love Laugh"), you could a different one for each bag.
4. Jeremie Hanging Wire Heart Vase ($5.00 + tax). Quite possibly the most wonderful thing we have ever carried for this price. If you think it's cute in the photo, wait until you see it in real life. One of our customers hung it on her back door, and it looks fantastic (how awesome would it be to have fresh flowers welcoming you at your door every single day?). This is a fabulous gift for just about anyone.
5. Natural Life Compact Brush Mirror ($5.00 + tax). Another fabulous item for your purse. Girls from age 8 to 80 find this sweet little brush/mirror a must have. Once again, this items comes in a variety of styles/quotes, so you could pick out a different one for each bag.

We hope these suggestions provide you with some great ideas for your Derby Day party, KMag. And since you're family, we'll be looking forward to your order soon (you know where to find us).

If any of you other dear readers have additional inquiries about the products featured above, please send us an email to allegra(at)jolihomeandevents(dot)com. Or, if you're one of our sweet local friends, please stop in and see us!

Love,
